About Us

What We Believe

Welcome to the website of the Sylvan Hills Church of Christ!  We are grateful for your interest in what we are striving to accomplish for the Lord Jesus Christ.  Our intent as blood-bought disciples of Christ is to glorify Him in all we do (Eph. 3:21).

We believe in faithful proclamation and practice of New Testament teachings on obedience to the gospel which includes:

• Belief in Jesus as the resurrected Son of God (John 8:24; Mark 16:16)
• Confession of Jesus as the Son of God (Romans 10:9, 10)
• Repentance of sins (Acts 2:38; 3:19)
• Baptism for forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16)

We believe the New Testament provides critical information on how we should worship and includes:

• Singing (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16)
• Praying (Acts 2:42; Philippians 4:6)
• Observance of the Lord’s Supper (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23ff)
• Giving (1 Corinthians 16:1,2; 2 Corinthians 9:6ff)
• Exhortation from the word (Acts 2:42)

In order to maintain faithfulness to God’s word and fulfill our mission as a church family, we believe it is important to be:

• Spirit-led (Romans 8:14; Galatians 5:25)
• Prayer-driven (Matthew 7:7ff; 1 Thessalonians 5:17)
• Outreach-minded (Mark 16:15; Luke 19:10)
• Spiritual-growth focused (2 Peter 3:18; Hebrews 6:1)

What To Expect When You Visit Us

A Preferred Parking Spot

As our guest, you'll get one of the best spots in our lot! As you pull into the parking lot either North or South of Maryland, signs direct you to one of our preferred parking spots reserved especially for you.

At Sylvan Hills, the first face you see as you approach the church should have a smile on it. Whether you need childcare, are looking for a place for your teens, or you're wondering where the adult classes meet … a greeter will be nearby to help you get where you need to go.

There's no need to worry about what you are wearing because the Lord is more concerned about what's on the inside of an individual. Our desire is to meet your real life needs with Biblical teaching that is practical so that you'll receive help to deal with real life issues.

A Safe Place For Your Infant and Preschoolers

Our Early Childhood department is a safe and loving environment for children beginning in the nursery on up. Teachers and assistants give special care and attention to each child who is entrusted to them during Bible Class time and also the worship service. Children should feel that church is a happy place where they are loved and secure and that's exactly what they'll find at Sylvan Hills.

A Fun Place for Kids

Our teachers are dedicated to sharing the love of Jesus with the kids and greet each child with in a warm, friendly greeting as they enter elementary classrooms. Bible lessons are taught and presented in a practical way so that the children will be able to apply those truths to their lives.

A Cool Place for Teens to Connect

Whether your teen is in junior high or high school they don't need to wait until they are adults to make their life count! At Sylvan Hills, they'll learn that God has a purpose for their life as they hear a Biblical message of hope every week. Classes are taught along with an exciting church experience geared specifically for either your junior high or high school teens.

Mission Statement

To create the best environment where we meet each other at different stages in our spiritual journey and then allow God to lead us into true spiritual transformation through an authentic relationship with Himself, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and each other.

It is our vision to be a church….

… that is prayer driven and totally dependant upon God; utilizing prayer as a priority in our daily lives and in the body together.

… that is a dynamic spiritual church where people will experience a growing and maturing relationship with God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

… where every disciple passionately seeks to share the gospel of Christ to lead others into a life changing experience with their Savior.

… where people can grow to love God and each other.  A place where families and singles, young and old are loving, learning and living in unity and community together through the bond of Jesus Christ.

… that seeks out every opportunity to minister unselfishly to people in the community around us.

… that will experience the presence and power of God in fresh, relevant and biblically based worship.  Where God is honored through the exciting, dynamic, spirit-filled expression of worship and praise from the people of God.

… that is seeking God’s will for us as we are Spirit-led and shepherd guided into green pastures of nourishment and the quiet waters of unity in His Kingdom.
