You'll
Never Walk Alone
Whenever Jerry Lewis closes the MDA Telethon with
“You’ll Never Walk Alone,” I always think about the
special kids I met at MDA camp years ago. Serving as a
counselor with those phenomenal campers was an
experience I’ll never forget. They have a remarkable
spirit that all of us would do well to emulate. Never
once did I see a camper throw a pity party. None of
them ever complained about the weather or the food.
Camp is where they swim, fish, ride horses and just have
fun being a kid. Along with their families at home,
they face tremendous challenges, but they keep on
smiling.
The lyrics to “You’ll Never Walk Alone”
speak to them in a special way, especially, the final
thought, “Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart.”
Extraordinary perseverance is bred through hope. Hope
raises anticipation of a better tomorrow.
Relevant
to today’s complex society that often overwhelms people
with a sense of hopelessness, is the Bible teaching,
“Hope deferred makes the heart sick” (Prov. 13:12). If
you feel like your tomorrows will never be better than
today, your smile will be turned upside down and you
will suffer physically and spiritually. May I offer a
suggestion? Take a moment right now and lay your cares
before God in prayer. He is a God of hope with a
message of hope in Christ Jesus. Walk on! With Christ
you’ll never walk alone.
