Brilliant
Disguise
As
Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare under
President Lyndon Johnson, John W. Gardner spearheaded
the launching of Medicare as well as new government
programs for schools in low income areas. Presented
with daunting challenges, Gardner’s outlook on life was
best summarized when he stated, “We are continually
faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly
disguised as insoluble problems.”
There are two sides
to every problem you will face. The outward façade of
your predicament is most easily seen. On the other side
is the personal growth which can be experienced when one
is able to emerge through the dark and difficult days.
Unable to progress
past the initial discouragement of a trial, many people
never discover the stability and confidence waiting
behind the brilliant disguise. They view every setback
as a permanent and personal failure.
Every experience in life, both good and
bad, can be embraced with joy when one approaches their
problems as a positive prospect for greater faith (James
1:2,3). Don’t just hang on. Accelerate forward! Take
advantage of that brilliantly disguised opportunity!
